2025 FILM INIATIVE
About
This summer, SOI Studios presents 6 Shorts in 6 Days — an ambitious filmmaking challenge showcasing new and emerging talent from across the Midlands. Six short films will be created in just six days, each produced, shot, and completed within 24 hours. The initiative highlights bold storytelling and fresh voices, offering a powerful glimpse into the next wave of regional filmmakers.
Jonell Rowe: Writer, Director
Being a part of SOI Studios has been a truly rewarding experience, providing me with the opportunity to collaborate with emerging talent through their dynamic film initiative. I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with two of our upcoming directors, Archie Parker and Aliyyah Van Koten. As a writer, I contributed to two of Archie’s short films, The BBQ and The Bench, and also served as 1st Assistant Director on both projects. Additionally, I had the privilege of working as 1st A.D. on Aliyyah’s visually striking short film Vale. Each of the shorts has been beautifully captured by our talented Director of Photography, Jake Osiatynski, whose visual style brought so much to the storytelling. The initiative has been brilliantly overseen by SOI Studios’ company director, Hollybeth Gourlay, who has done an incredible job bringing it all together and creating an environment where creativity and collaboration can truly thrive. I would highly recommend any up-and-coming filmmakers to submit their work to the next SOI Studios film initiative when it opens again—it's a fantastic platform for growth, artistic exploration, and building lasting industry connections.
